Why an environmental audit?
Environmental audits ensure that your site and any potentially contaminated land is suitable for how you intend to use it. This is typically triggered in a planning permit from local council or by an environmental audit overlay (EAO) by planning authorities, or EPA.
Purpose of environmental audits
The purpose of an environmental audit is to:
- assess the nature and extent of the risk of harm to human health or the environment from contaminated land
- recommend measures to manage the risk of harm to human health or the environment from contaminated land
- make recommendations to manage any contaminated land.
Why would you need an audit?
You might be asked to conduct an audit by your local or municipal council as a planning requirement, when you intend to rezone or redevelop your site, often for medium to high density residential development.
What does it involve?
When conducting an environmental audit, we’ll perform an environmental site assessment (a Preliminary Site Investigation PSI and Detailed Site Investigation DSI) and any remediation and validation works to control any risks found. An independent Environmental Auditor will then review the environmental works to ensure the site is suitable for the way in which you intend to use it.
What are the outcomes of an audit?
As part of the audit, you may require a:
- groundwater quality management plan
- health and safe plan (HASP)
- environmental management plan
- clean up so far as reasonably practicable (CUSFARP) groundwater remedial works
When the audit is complete, an environmental audit statement and environmental audit report is produced indicating the suitability of the site for its intended use.
